Reader’s Question:
I am a passenger in a car accident and I was not at fault. I have spoken with the at fault driver’s car insurance provider that I want to file a personal injury and liability claim. I am just wondering how much time should I give them to contact me with an offer? I live in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Personally, I would like my medical bills to be paid, however I would also want to be polite. I suggest that you give the at fault party’s insurance carrier no more than forty eight (48) hours to return your call. In this time frame, it should give them enough time to respond to you in a timely manner. Since you said that you are going to file a personal injury insurance claim, this will need to be done through your insurance carrier in Fairbanks, Alaska, the insurance provider of the motorist of the car you were in, and the insurance provider of the owner of the car you were in. Personal injury protection covers your injuries regardless of who is at fault in the incident. You will have to use the personal injury protection before you use the at fault party’s bodily injury liability coverage.
