Reader’s Question:

I am required to get an SR22 auto insurance to have my license reinstated however I do not have A car. I only borrow and rent. So how do I di this?

Sandra

Anchorage, AK

Since you do not own a car and you are required to get SR22 auto insurance, what you need to get is an SR22 non owners insurance in Alaska.

A non owner SR22 insurance in Alaska is simply a form of car insurance that shows proof that you have an existing car insurance policy on file. You need to file this to an auto insurance provider that is licensed to do business in the state of Alaska. You will also need this to have your license reinstated.

According to the Alaska Department of Motor Vehicles the SR22 auto insurance form includes:

  • crash information (date and location),
  • driver’s personal information (name, date of birth, license number, and mailing address)
  • vehicle information (year, make, model, license plate number, and VIN) and
  • car insurance company information (name of the company, policyholder’s name and address, policy period and number)

If you need to get a non owner SR22 insurance in Alaska, contact your car insurance company and see if they offer this type of insurance. Normally, you will be required to carry non owner SR22 insurance for a period of 3 years. Make sure that you do not let your sr22 insurance lapse to avoid having your license suspended again.

High Risk Driver Insurance Anchorage Alaska AK

Reader’s Question:

I just moved here in Anchorage, Alaska, and I bought a used car. what’s the difference between standard and nonstandard insurance? Or when do I apply for one and not the other? Which is better?

Karen

Anchorage, AK

Hello, Karen. Choosing between standard and nonstandard auto insurance is really not a matter of preference or cost-efficiency. The insurance companies will be the one to decide which one is most suitable to you. Standard insurance is the one we usually have. It’s for drivers with few violations, regular, virtually, risk-free jobs, healthy (or not very, very sick), etc. Basically, it’s what average Joes (and Joannes) like you and I purchase. Standard insurance costs less than non-standard insurance. Non-standard insurance is usually purchased by those with motor vehicle violations or have recently figured in an accident. if you have several minor violations, you will be a likely candidate for nonstandard car insurance.

If you figured in a DUI situation, the state will require you to have nonstandard insurance. Another reason why others have non-standard insurance is because of a high-risk job or lifestyle. A race car driver or a movie car-chase stuntman may not likely be offered standard car insurance because of the risks of their lifestyle. A person who owns a sports car will most likely be offered nonstandard auto insurance. This can also be influenced by the result of the medicals exam and background checks done by the car insurance company. Simply put, if you are deemed to be a high-risk driver, you will be offered nonstandard insurance. To check which one is suitable for you, you should contact an auto insurance company there in Anchorage, AK.

Q: How can I get the cheapest SR22 insurance on my car? It’s kind of oldish.

A: If you want the cheapest SR22 insurance on your old car, then you need to figure out what its worth is and what you’re willing to pay for it. One of the most efficient ways for you to save money on your car insurance coverage is to get rid of as much coverage as possible. Cutting half your coverage, you cut half of your price.

Now, the levels of required liability insurance in Alaska are high, and to get the cheapest SR22 insurance, you will have fewer options concerning what coverages to drop. Still, the first thing you need to do is find out how much your car is worth. Look it up in Kelley’s Blue Book. If your car is worth less than $2000, then cut any coverage you have on it other than the minimum liability car insurance.

Since you have an SR22 on file, your insurance is more expensive, so you may want to set the bar a little lower. Ultimately, you don’t want to pay more on your car insurance premium than on your car, and you need to think about whether or not you can afford to replace your car if wrecked.

  • $25,000 for property damage liability; this is the coverage for any physical damages to vehicles or property in a car accident

Q: Can I buy my DWI SR22 insurance online?

A: You can buy your DWI SR22 insurance, and it’s often easier and cheaper, not to mention a lot faster. On the internet, you have all of the information at your fingertips, and so within minutes you’re able to check car insurance quotes from dozens of companies, learn about policy quirks, investigate consumer opinion and discounts which are available–such things that you would have to pay someone else to do otherwise.

You can also purchase your car insurance online, although not all car insurance companies offer this option for DWI SR22 insurance. Still, whenever the option is available, you should take advantage of it, because it often saves you money, both in the short and long run. In the short run, many companies have an onine discount only available to customers who buy their car insurance online, and in the long run they save money when you buy online and they will eventually pass that savings down to you.

In some cases, you can do everything related to your DWI SR22 insurance, even filing it. Some car insurance companies allow you to sign it electronically, and you can file it and be ready for your license in only a couple of days.

Q: How can I keep the prices of teen SR-22 insurance for my daughter low?

A: One thing you might try to get cheaper teen SR-22 insurance for her is to make sure you enroll her in a general driver’s education class as well as possibly a defensive driver education class. If she doesn’t need to take a defensive driver’s education class ordered by a judge, then she can receive a discount from most car insurance companies by taking one.

Make sure you call your car insurance agent first to find out which classes you can take and from where. If you take the wrong one you might not get a discount on her teen SR-22 insurance policy.
